Hakone: The Open Air Museum

Even if you’re thinking to yourself that museums aren’t your thing, GO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!

There is so much to do in Hakone: Yunessun, Lake Ashi, Mt. Fuji Ropeway, Mishima Skywalk and more! But this is definitely a fun family activity that you won’t want to miss.

Deep thoughts

The museum has indoor and outdoor sections with pieces scattered all over the lawns. There’s a kid area with mazes and a net playground that you could honestly let the kids run wild in for hours

In the back of the museum is a foot bath to relax in from all the walking you’ve done and for the more adventurous am observation tower that you can climb up, think stairs…lots and lots of stairs. I myself did NOT choose to partake

If you are worried about not having a towel to dry off, don’t because of course, it’s Japan and there’s a vending machine that sells souvenir hand towels.

Overall the museum was a great experience and one that I was glad to mark off the bucket list. I found the exhibits to be interesting and enjoyable, the wide open spaces allowed the kids to run and play and burn off energy and it was a beautiful day to rack up some hours outside.
