Looking to do something other than the traditional turkey and sides for this Thanksgiving day? Then why not check out the illuminations at Yomiuriland?

This Japanese theme park located outside of Tokyo is easily accessible by car or train. They even have their own dedicated train station so that you can ride the gondola and see the lights on your way out. If you choose to drive there’s plenty of parking which is a short walk to the entrance, however make sure you have cash because cards are not accepted.

Yomiuriland is a great place for all day adventure as there are roller coasters activities and entertainment for the whole family. At the entrance are rides for those under the age of five. The rest of the park is suitable for ages five and up with some rides having a height or weight requirements.

If your family that loves roller coasters then you’re definitely better off buying the all day pass, however many of the rides have ticket machines that you can purchase a single ride tickets on. Again, make sure you have cash.

If you end up at the park with a limited amount of cash don’t worry, there’s a 7-Eleven ATM outside the gates that you can get more cash from.

Many of the food establishments inside the park also take cards to include Suica, so you don’t have to worry about finding something to eat.

Enjoying the park during the day for the rides and excitement is just 1/2 of the adventure. During the winter months ensure that you stay until sunset, which at this time of year is pretty early, so that you can see all of the illuminations that cover the park.

From the rides to the water area there are lights and music and shows. There is a timed light show at the fountains and there is a tunnel of lights that you can walk through.

If you need a break from the cold there are indoor experiences that the kids can do that were a LOT of fun to include making crafts they can take home with them.

The gondola ride also gives you a bird’s eye view of the illuminations so if you train in it’s a great way to wrap up the night. It’s definitely a site that you don’t want to miss!

If you get there early enough you also have the chance to check out Hana Biyori next-door, the botanical gardens with the Starbucks inside which is a great spot for a photo op!
