Studio Ghibli fans have a unique opportunity to see, explore and experience their favorite production studio locally. If you’re unsure who or what Studio Ghibli is you’ve probably seen, heard or purchased the icon known as Totoro from their 1988 film My Neighbor Totoro.

But if you haven’t been paying attention this awesome event is coming to an end soon and it won’t be returning for a second “season”.

From the stamp rally to the t-shirts; from curry shops to burger halls all of Yokosuka is caught up in the wonder studio Ghibli and extolling the virtues of the many different anime films, manga series and characters that have come to life.

If you haven’t been to the Yokosuka Museum of Art the display there walks through the life and creative process of Toshio Suzuki and growth and expansion of Studio Ghibli. From the earliest days until current times the development of the studio is explained in pictures words and memories.
Unfortunately, if you don’t speak Japanese you’ll primarily be looking as despite there being Wi-Fi in the building the signal is not strong enough to allow a translation app to work.

“The wifi in the building does NOT work”
Despite minimal understanding of the text that was displayed it was still a grand adventure walking through the mind of a renowned visual artist, interacting with pieces of pop culture and checking out a new local spot.

Of COURSE nothing is complete without a trip through the #giftshop!! A final opportunity to purchase and take home a piece of the magic and of course this one did not disappoint. I refrained from purchasing N ANOTHER stuffy, but she did get some stationary and I of course added another hand towel to the collection!!

If you drive to the museum they have parking in site, however with this event it was full. There are several near by lots within walking distance, paid and free. You can also catch the bus and the stop is a 5 min walk away at the beach.
Have you been to see the exhibit or done the stamp rally? Are you a fan or just went to check it out? Let us know in the comments!
